Buying a new home means a lot of things. Figuring out where to put your favorite bookshelf. Figuring out how to get to the grocery store from your new location. |

Everything will come down to what you choose when it comes to the right house and the right school. Each of these can be dependent upon the other. It all depends upon what you want. Do you want a really good school for your child, no matter how far it is? Or is it imperative that you be within driving distance of the school so you can drop the kids off before heading out to work? If you choose the house before the school, then the distance of the school may not matter. Choosing the house first may mean having to put your children on a bus each and every day so they get to school on time. You may not mind this in the least; after all, your kids may have been on buses before moving. Or your home may be close enough that the school is around the block, meaning kids can walk there under the warm summer sun and you can drive them when the winter winds come around.
If you choose the school first, then you may base your house choice on the distance. Again, it depends on how you want to get your kids to school. Are you comfortable with them riding bikes a few blocks or is a bus preferable. You may also want to check with the school about bus routes so you know how far your kids may have to go just to be on the route. But don’t fret too much about bus routes, as they often change from school year to school year to accommodate for new children.
For some people, school distance is not an important factor when moving. As long as kids are able to go to a quality school, then any distance is acceptable. In some cases, there may be only one school to choose from. This is why it is important to do the necessary research before making any final decisions. The more you know, the better equipped you will be to help ease your family into their new home.
