Marriages are made in heaven but materialized at wedding halls, and for this task the families prepare wedding invitation cards, get their wedding clothes made, order catering, decide theme for wedding decorations and buy wedding rings. Every community has priest, who have the power to join two people in holy matrimony.

In India, the wedding venue for almost all the Christian weddings is a Church. Like the traditional Hindu marriages, Christian weddings are also 3 to 4 days affair. There are pre wedding, wedding and post wedding rituals and a priest is usually present for few hours on the wedding day. The family members of bride and bridegroom take care of financial aspect of the wedding functions together.

The church presents a wonderful ambience of the wedding venue where two people begin their lives together in the most beautiful way. It is the priest who first walks on the aisle and is followed by other attendants and the bride and bridegroom. The service is lead by priest with a traditional mass. bride and bridegroom are asked to select few passages from the bible that are their favourite. Friends and family members then read out these parts to the rest of the gathering.

After that, the priest delivers those special words which everyone has heard so many times in movies and other weddings but are still so near the hearts of lovers “Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to join this man and woman in holy matrimony.” This is followed by bride and bridegroom reading their vows that they write for each other. In some Indian weddings, the priest reads the vows from the holy Bible and announces for the rings to be exchanged between bride and groom as a token of their love for each other.

The priest blesses the married couple by telling them the significance of marriage and the importance of being true to each other. The couple then signs the register and leaves the church and the guests throw rice on them which is to pray that may the newlyweds always live in prosperity.
