Rhinoplasty: Preparing for a Revision Procedure

Revision rhinoplasty is something you might have to plan for after a botched nose job. Whether your nose looks odd after the original surgery, or you just personally don't like it, you should prepare for the revision surgery like you would any other type.

Going in for rhinoplasty can be life-changing for sure, as you have a chance to finally get the nose you want. Unfortunately, sometimes you end up with a result that is worse than before, and you might wonder if it can be fixed at all. The good news is that it usually can, but you still have to prepare for the revision operation just as you would any other surgery.

Before you go in for revision rhinoplasty, you should know that going back to the original shape, size, or placement of your nose is nearly impossible. Even if you bring in pictures of the one you had before, or perhaps the one you want now, most surgeons cannot exactly match it. However, if you choose an experienced surgeon, you can likely end up with a result that you like. Of course, the goal is for it to be better than the one you got after the first nose job, and the right surgeon can definitely give you that.

If the doctor who worked on your original rhinoplasty specializes in that type of surgery, and you liked everything about the process except for the outcome, you could consider returning to the same surgeon. After all, often the result has little bearing on the doctor's skills, as sometimes the exact shape or size that you wanted is not possible. However, if you did not like the attitude or efforts of the surgeon, or they do not specialize in altering noses, you should find one who does.

With revision rhinoplasty, it will take some time for your nose to heal, just like after the original operation. Not only that, but it will usually change over time, as well. Right after surgery, it probably will not look like you had expected or hoped, but it will change daily. This could affect the size, shape, and even its angle, meaning that you need to give it time to completely heal before you decide whether it is what you wanted or not.

It is unfortunate to have to get revision rhinoplasty, but at least it is available in case you do not like the results of the first operation. In some cases, you might find that your original desired outcome would not have been as good for your face as the one you get during the revision operation. Either way, this kind of procedure offers nose job patients a second chance at getting the results they want.
