Coming back to how stress is caused, when you are under stress, the brain releases certain stress hormones that can impact the body processes. This is because these hormones have chemicals that affect the normal processes of the body, most notably the digestive process. So it is common for people to feel a loss of appetite when under stress.
An oversupply of these hormones can seriously impact health and can cause the following problems.
Cardiovascular disease: It is a well-known fact that the heart beats faster when under stress, so stressed out people are the primary targets for cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and stroke. This is because long-term stress can raise blood pressure and strain the heart. The blood also becomes thicker or stickier and can result in artery-clogging clots. Studies have revealed that lingering stress can more than double the risk of heart attacks in people.
Weakened immune system: Our immune system too is very sensitive to stress. There are some cells that become more active while there are others that close down completely when the body is stressed. Over a time, this leads to a gaping hole in the body’s defense system. According to a study from National Institutes of Health, "the immune cells are being bathed in molecules which are essentially telling them to stop fighting." As a result, people under stress become vulnerable to colds, flu, and other infections.
Gastrointestinal distress: As already stated above, digestive system responds strongly to stress. There is constant communication between the intestines and stomach and when the brain is distressed, the digestive system gets the messages and reacts. So people under stress can suffer from various ailments and diseases such as irritation in intestines, cramping, diarrhea, and constipation. If the stress persists, the intestinal distress can become a chronic problem known as irritable bowel syndrome.
Depression: It has commonly been observed that stressed out people lose interest in fun and relaxing activities that once gave them pleasure. From there, it is generally a short trip to depression and further problems.
It is important to realize that stress can be treated. If you are suffering from stress, you can consult your physician who can prescribe the right medication for you. Stress medications are widely available and if you wish you can even order these medications from the comfort of your home, any time of the day or night, from online prescription pharmacies in the USA. If you are residing in the USA, simply enter the term online prescription pharmacy USA in the search engine and you will come across various online drug stores who deliver your order right on your doorstep.
