Renting your property in Spain |
||||
Forget faceless hotels; one thing you can be sure to find when renting privately is that your holiday home will be unique, with everything on offer, from luxury beachside villas to secluded rural hideaways.
And because there’s no middleman shaving off their slice of commission, you’ll save a few quid, too.
The internet has played a huge part in self-made holidays. We can book flights, order foreign currency, get travel insurance and arrange our accommodation all without leaving the comfort of our armchairs.
Never before have we had this much choice, with thousands of websites allowing us to construct tailor-made holidays.
Beware: with choice comes responsibility. You will have nobody to blame but yourself if you get to your apartment in the hottest month of the year and find you have no air-conditioning and are situated at the end of a runway, all because you didn’t do your homework. For this reason, it is important to be as specific as possible with your requirements. You can be as particular as you like when it comes to this.
But while there’s plenty of accommodation out there, finding it is another matter. With the growth of the Internet, lettings websites have become particularly popular. These portal-style websites allow you to search by region, number of bedrooms, facilities and so on.
However, with so many sites offering so many properties, it can be difficult to see the wood for the trees, and leafing through our website - offers a relaxed way to find the ideal property to your own tastes.
Once you have decided on your ideal property – and checked that it’s available for the dates you want - the next step is to book your flights. The internet is most definitely your best bet, with many airlines offering lower fares to those booking online.
While easyJet and Ryanair have been at the forefront of low-cost flights to Spain, it’s wise to check all your options. Faced with such stiff competition, the established airlines, such as BA and Iberia, have been forced into being competitive and offer some great-value fares. And don’t forget the charter airlines; unlike scheduled airlines, prices often go down as the date draws nearer, and these are often the best choice for last-minute bargains. Having booked your flights, arranged where to pick up the keys, and found cheap car hire – all with a couple of phone calls and a bit of internet searching, you can sleep easy knowing that everything is organized. It really couldn’t be easier and no actual cash has exchanged hands as it’s all on your credit card - with all the safeguards that offers.
And once you’ve experienced your own tailormade holiday, and have experienced a different side of Spain, away from the package holiday hordes, perhaps you’re considering getting in on the act, and heading straight for the closest inmobiliario to see what bargain properties are on offer. More and more Brits every year are buying apartments and villas with a view to renting them. But one thing’s for certain: unless you ensure that your property is advertised and that it stands out from the crowd, it will be more liability than liberating.
Putting your property up for rental via a web portal can be free, but check to see what features are on offer. Helpful features include an administration area where you can log in and upload your digital photographs, showing off your property, and an updateable availability calendar so that potential renters can see when you are booked.
Different websites may offer different levels of service, from a basic listing where customers contact you directly to make a booking or an enquiry, to a fully managed property service that arranges bookings, changeovers, cleaning and maintenance.
Naturally, the latter will be more costly, and you will need to check that these websites are making an effort to market your property - after all, it’s no good being listed on a website that nobody sees.
It is also paramount that they have some form of offline marketing, such as magazine advertising.
Of course, to really make your property stand out, you can advertise it yourself. For free on our website Holiday rentals Spain
Costa Blanca holiday options is a site for holiday rentals. You can advertise your own property here for free or search for holiday accommodation.
