Reiki, like other energy healing is vibrational in nature and works on different frequencies to heal. Have you ever listened to music with a very deep base that actually upset your stomach? This is because the frequency of that music was out of sync with your own natural frequencies. Frequency is another word for energy. We are energy beings, as in, we require energy to live and we use energy all the time when we think, move and feel. We all actually resonate at a certain frequency which is measureable. How often do you find yourself saying that you are ‘full of energy’ or that you ‘don’t have enough energy for…whatever it is’? What do you really mean by that?
So where do we get our energy from? The one thing from my science classes in school that always stuck with me is, ‘Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only changed from one form to another.’ That gives me an image of a circle, the ‘Circle of life’.
Imagine a seed in the ground with the makings of life stored inside it. That seed takes energy from the sun in the form of heat and light, as well as energy from the soil and water in the form of nutrients. It uses this energy to grow, for example into a fruit tree, but the energy doesn’t just dissipate. Energy gets stored in every part of it. The energy is continually flowing as the tree grows, produces flowers and seeds, as it continually produces leaves and new branches.
We, humans and other creatures, eat the fruit. We burn the wood and the decaying leaves are consumed by the worms before being mixed into the soil, where they turn to nutrients to feed other plants. In all these cases, the tree is being converted into different types of energy.
We can see that energy is constantly flowing and changing. This is healthy. Unfortunately, this flow of energy can be blocked by many things including chemical, pollutants, nutrient-poor foods and even negative thoughts. Think of what happens when there is a block in the flow of electricity. Either the machine won’t switch on or there is an overload in the system somewhere followed by the system burning out. It’s exactly the same in living beings, whether it is humans, animals, plants or indeed the planet and her ecosystem. When there is a blockage, illness occurs.
Energy healing, including Reiki, works on unblocking the system and encouraging better flow of the energy. Through working with a therapist or on yourself with self-healing, visualisations, positive affirmations, gentle exercise or meditations the energy begins to flow more freely and gradually the blockages, sometimes so severe they have become full-blown illnesses, are removed. The energy will usually heal the core of the issue first, so while we may go for healing to ‘cure’ cancer or a head-cold or grief, the energy will work on the reason we became ill.
That is most often on an emotional, mental or spiritual level so it can sometimes feel that we are not getting any better. How we see, feel and think about a situation has an effect on us. If we see it in a negative light it causes negative stress, which weakens our immune system leaving us susceptible to illness. The more you can accept the subtle healing on those levels, learn from it and move past whatever it is, the quicker the physical healing will happen. Sometimes the healing can just be acceptance of a situation, so that you can allow yourself or someone else to leave this life peacefully.
So Reiki is a healing art and it can bring about miraculous healing. There have been many documented cases of miracle healing through Reiki and other energy healing. They are possible, but successful physical healing depends on your individual dedication to it and to the extent of your acceptance of higher causes.
About Author
Alana is a full-time therapist at Dublin Therapeutic Massage Clinic. She has been working in the holistic field for over 3 years, beginning in a health spa. She has spent most of her time working for Holistic Healing Centre and for herself since September 2008. Her qualifications include diplomas in sports, holistic (Swedish), Indian head, aromatherapy, on-site, hot stone and pregnancy massage as well as in reflexology. She has also done a number of CPDs in deep tissue massage and is a Reiki Master.
Alana has always turned to massage and relaxation techniques over more conventional treatments to help her through difficult patches, finding that this gets to the core of the problem more than just covering it up or treating the symptoms. She believes in a more natural approach to life and health. When she eventually decided to begin studying massage, she felt very much as if she had arrived home. Since then she knew this is what she was meant to do.
Her focus is mainly on the treatment of chronic issues in the muscles but she understands the far reaching affects on the mind and spirit through the stress reduction and relaxation elements of any of the treatments. She is always on the lookout for new books and courses to further her knowledge and improve her techniques.
