You can use the application as a stand-alone tool and also operate it in conjunction with MS Exchange Server. Microsoft Outlook stores all the local copies of its data (emails, notes, journals, tasks etc.) in a personal folder (also called .pst file). This file can catch odds of corruption due to network errors, unexpected shutdown, application bugs, virus attack and many similar file corruption issues. In such situations, it becomes vital that you have an updated and clean backup of your PST file to restore. However, in cases when you cannot restore from file backup because it is damaged, absent or unclean, commercial PST Repair tools can be used for safe and effective file repair.

As an example, you might receive the similar error message when performing regular tasks in Microsoft Outlook (like emptying the Deleted Items folder):

If it doesn’t help, create a new personal folder and copy the items to it:

- Quit Outlook
- You should click Start and then point to Settings. Next, you should double-click the Mail and Fax or Mail icon
- You can then select Personal Folder and click to access the Properties tab.
- Use Name windows and edit the name of your present personal folder file by adding the word ‘old’ to it
- Next, you can click Add to add a new file and select Personal Folders. Click OK
- Specify the name of new personal folder file and click OK
- After this, you should accept all the default settings for this newly created personal folder file.
- Click OK and close the properties window
- Start Microsoft Outlook
- Select a folder by right-clicking it in the Folder list of old personal folder file. Next, in the shortcut menu, you should click copy. You should not copy the folder that contains damaged email items
- Open the new personal folder file and click the copied folder in this file. Click OK
- You should copy all these folders in order
- Next, click Services in Tools menu
- You should then select the new personal folder file on the delivery tab from ‘Deliver new mail to the following location’ list. Click OK
- Close your old personal folder file and restart Outlook
