Here is the probability how one experience weight gain after surgery can and how one can reduce it.
After the laparoscopic surgery the average excess loss of weight is around 70%, for example the person weighing 100 pounds who is overweight can lose almost 70 pounds. And some have also observed the loss of around 80% which is quite appreciable.
Some patients prefer keeping 50% of the total weight after the surgery after 10years.
Unfortunately there are chances if once your weight reaches the lowest point i.e. your nadir, than you may start heading in opposite direction or your weight may start increasing.
After reaching to nadir around 80% of the patients have gained their weight eventually. Moreover it is observed that person who undergoes surgery more number of times is more likely prone to gain back their weight again.
On a standard people who seem to gain their weight back again 8% of their old weight as in return in the 5 years of the surgery. For example patient who lost 70 pounds from the overweight 100 pounds and who were among the 80% of the population who gained back the weight after the laparoscopic surgery is tend to gain 8% of the weight from the total weight, i.e. the patient may gain 8 pounds of the total weight after the laparoscopic surgery.
Patients keep around at least 50% of their excess weight later 10 years i.e. morbidly obese around 80% and super obese around 65%
There are many factors responsible which play a role in losing less weight or gaining back the weight again after laparoscopic surgery. Getting ready for such factors beforehand and taking proper steps against these factors may help you make the difference.
Weight before surgery: There is no point in going for laparoscopic surgery if one has already lost the weight, when laparoscopic surgery itself is meant for losing weight and tackling obesity problems, if one losses some pounds of weight before opting laparoscopic surgery than there will be a great impact on the body after the surgery. Reducing the body weight beforehand will reduce the post hazards complications of the laparoscopic surgery but the lower BMI or body mass index before the laparoscopic surgery leave no chances for the body to gain weight after the laparoscopic surgery.
Problems due to alcohol and drugs: Drugs addicts and people addicted to alcohols make revert back to their old habits after the laparoscopic surgery. Moreover people tend to use a substitute of the alcohol by abusing the alcohol and drugs and consumption of alcohol and drugs have lead to several post laparoscopic complications
Lacking family support: Lack of family support, family and groups and lack of the counselor who can guide them to proper lifestyle and lack of proper doctors and hospitals are the reasons for the patients gaining weight.
Post surgery psychological situation: Weight increment is correlated with the increased urge for eating foods of high calories and decreased urge for staying fit and healthy. Such kind of issues and attitude of patient is not frequent. Most of the times the urge for eating food and staying healthy are solved after the laparoscopic surgery.
