What information should be included in the business card?
• As an industry standard, the person who is giving out the business card should have at least his name, company title, e-mail address and phone number present. The company name and phone number should be present.
• Having an appealing logo will help promote your company as well as catch the attention of people when you present them your business card.
• You should consider adding a little information about the products or services you provide. Preferably in a single line, the person whom you presented your card to should know what your company offers.
• Remember that because the spaces on the business cards are very small, the information that is provided on the card should be clear and straight to the point.
What company image should you present?
• Decide whether you want to be formal or do you want to be spontaneous in your design.
• This will dictate certain aspects of your design like:
o The color palette you choose – when you want your image to be fun, then you can choose pastel colors or experiment on different color combinations. Conversely, if your company is on the conservative side you most likely will stick to certain color combinations and use colors that are less bright.
o The size and shape that you want – if your company wants to promote an image of change and freshness, then you may consider having your business cards design die cut or printed in custom sizes to achieve that edgy look.
o The finish that you want – matte gloss is gives you a laid back feel and an image of sophistication. Having UV coating or aqueous finish meanwhile puts certain sheen on your business cards giving your colors added life.
What printing company should you use?
• Choose between the different printing processes like digital printing and offset printing. Both of these printing processes offer several advantages that are unique to each other.
• Offset printing is ideal for bulk printing. So if you want to have a large number of prints done fast then off set printing is pretty much your printing method of choice.
• Digital printing meanwhile is ideal for custom prints and short run prints. So if you are planning to have your prints customized or you want to print only a small number of business cards, then digital printing is the way to go.
Who are you marketing for? What are the types of people that you will give your cards to?
• Determine the individuals or what types of companies will have the most use for your business cards designs.
• To be effective, it is important to know your market and to distribute your cards accordingly. However, remember that you will never know for sure if the company or individual will eventually have a use for your services. So try to expand your network as much as possible.
Creating effective business cards is very easy once you answer these questions. Now, you can be assured of having a well designed business card that will help you promote your business products or services.
