Promotional printed sticky notes are a great promotional product because they are small and easily portable, a plus for you and your customers, and because they are highly useful. Promotional sticky notes can be carried around with people to be used as needed to jot down numbers or addresses, they can be kept at the offices of your customers and potential customers to use (and to spread the word about your company!), or they can be taken home by those customers and potential customers so that they will be frequently exposed to your company name and information and reminded of doing business with you (an experience that, we hope, they will want to repeat!)
One of the problems with handing out promotional sticky notes, though, is that the design of the actual pages will be unappealing to your customers. However useful they are, if the design is unattractive, the customers and potential customers who do take them home will be hesitant to use them where others might see, and many people will simply pass them by with a “no, thank you” and not take them at all.
In order to keep your promotional sticky notes from becoming an office flop, there are some key design principles that you should keep in mind. First, try not to take up too much of the note with your company information. Your information should be easily read, but if you are taking up a half of each page with it, you may be including too much. Do you really need your address on the note? Is your logo too big? Think about reducing space to make them more useful to people, and more attractive, too.
Another problem is the logo itself, which might be too big for the note. Instead of trying to shrink it too much, though, consider making it more transparent so that the logo can be written on top of without obscuring what your customers and potential customers are trying to write. This design element works very well to help minimize the room that you are taking for your company information as well.
Also consider the colors that you are using. While you can use all kinds of colors to make your logo bright and beautiful or your images or advertisement shine, you want to make sure that they are not so colorful as to offend the eyes of those you are trying to attract. If you want to use a bold color like red, use it sparingly, and minimize the use of other colors if you use any other colors at all. This will keep you from making the pad look too busy. Design is as important is content when it comes to promotional products.
