There are only two essential procedures to pay attention when it comes to granite countertops. If you do these correctly, you would enjoy the innate beauty of your granite for a lifetime.
Granite Sealing
All granite tiles and countertops must be sealed. Although granites are comparatively the same hardness, they have various levels of porosity. A universal rule is that the lighter the color of your granite, the more absorbent it would be. Follow the sealer directions to correctly relate the correct amount of sealer to your granite. Most prominently, do not ever allow your sealer dry on the granite. Let it soak up first and then clean the excess off. Use a granite sealer, which is generally been recommended by your granite installer. There are also best brands on the internet and at any home improvement store.
Cleaning your granite
It is always better not to clean you granite and marble countertops than using the wrong cleaning product. There are many brand name cleaning products available that say “Okay for Granite”, but in fact they might not. Consider that the company, which makes these cleaning products as well, makes the same products for cleaning glass, vinyl and other materials such as plastic.
While these cleaning products would certainly clean your granite, but they would further slowly remove your sealer from granite as well. You do not desire this to take place because the sealer is your defense against pollutes piercing and staining your granite. Again, these types of cleaners would not harm your granite so they feel it is satisfactory to put ‘ok for granite’ on the bottle, but they are not tackling the long life of sealer product, which you applied. One of the most excellent ways to clean your granite is to use tepid water with a small amount of gentle liquid dishwashing soap.
Steering sealing
There is no general rule as such to how long to stay until you reseal your granite. You can go for water glass test. Since water is the most frequent liquid in a kitchen, once you notice that your water glass leaves a water ring after appearing on the granite for a while, then just wait for it to dry and reseal the countertops.
