Preparing for MAT?

Mat is one of the most prestigious exams and it too requires hard work and focused dedication like any other MBA entrance exam, as many universities take up mat scores as a part of their admission criteria.

MAT – management aptitude test, happens to be one of the most popular and worldwide conducted test for MBA aspirants. It is conducted by CMS – centre for management service and AIMA – all India management association. Mat isn’t just another ordinary mba exam but holds huge value for itself as many top business schools and universities participate in it and it also happens to be the first exam to be certified by ISO 9001:2000 certification. This exam usually takes place four times in a year in the month of – January, September, May and December. It consists of questions from data interpretation, language skills, quantitative ability and reasoning fields.

Those who have completed their graduation or are about to complete it are eligible to take up this exam.

Pattern of MAT:

• Logical Reasoning
• Quantitative Ability
• Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency
• General Awareness
• English Usage & Reading Comprehension

Each section consists of 40 questions:

To clear mat and score good in it, one should have a problem solving attitude, focused attention, willingness to work hard and high level of concentration power. Because it is a national level entrance test for mba and is passed by government. It holds high value in the market, and no student who is serious for mba can ignore this examination.

Tips for solving mat:

 High amount of practice is required to clear mat, one needs to practice a lot with mock tests, sample papers, polis up GK, English writing and speaking skills etc. The more the practice the better will one be prepared for the exam.

 One should also keep in mind the time frame during the exam, as it is limited and in that limited time period, one should try and manage things in such a manner that maximum questions get solved, to increase the chance of scoring more.

 Skill, management, organizing, planning and right level of communication are a few key points to be taken care of while preparing for mat.

 Mathematical skills should be polished, if one hasn’t touched math’s since school, one should brush up the maths – stop using calculator and try to do mental calculations, try solve mock papers, brush up the basics of percentage, division, multiplication reading graphs etc.

 Be updated on the latest and best books out in the market to assist you with your mat preparation

 Its not always limited to once knowledge test, there are various other skills at test here. So, besides being up to date with the test syllabus, you also needs to be updated with the latest happenings.. Also, you need to polish their practical skills like – managerial skills, reasoning, time management etc.

Hence, if you are looking forward for admission in mba in a few of the most prestigious universities or top B – schools, you need to focus and be well prepared to appear and score good in mat examination, so as to settle well in a top B - school with flying colors towards a better future.
