Most Caucasians have a nose with a high bridge, and longer, thinner tip. In contrast, most Asian people have noses that are shorter, wider and smaller. The tip is less defined than it is with Caucasian nose types.
Asian nose surgery has gained interest because of the growing demands in modern society to have a nose that looks refined, but still Asian. Maybe in the past the ideal was to have a nose that appeared “Western,” but this is not necessarily the case anymore.
In the US, many Asian-Americans are more partial to their Asian roots rather than American influences. Many Asians do not want to have to conform to the concept of Western beauty just because that’s what they see the most of here. Although they may want rhinoplasty, it’s obviously for the same reason patients from many races want this procedure: to look and feel better about themselves, as well as hoping that their new found self-confidence will open doors to improved social lives and careers.
The goals of Asian rhinoplasty are to create balance and achieve a natural look that compliments your facial features. The nose does a lot to influence how your other features are seen. If it is too small, it accentuates other features such as the cheeks or chin. If it is too big, it may distract attention from more pleasing features such as the eyes. Therefore, this procedure is not just to shape the nose, but to shape the whole face.
