Bleeding
For these kinds of plastic surgeries, the more common risk is excessive bleeding. Although this is not high, there is still a possibility that some patients may not heal as fast as others. There are generalized tests which may help to indicate a person's susceptibility to bleeding and other blood related risks but these may not be conclusive enough for specific problems.
Among facial, breast and abdominal surgery, breast augmentation may have a higher risk of bleeding than that of the face. The difference may only be slight since it is surgery and the body reacts pretty much the same way in all places.
The number of capillaries may be indicative of a person's proneness to bleeding in specific areas of the body.
Bleeding is easier to stop these days compared to several decades ago. There are also some precautions that are recommended to patients who are prone to bleeding such as temporarily eliminating the use of medications and dietary supplements the patient is currently taking as well as going on a diet, a few weeks before any surgery.
Numbness
In some plastic surgeries, numbness occurs in the affected area. Most cases are temporary and sensation returns to the area after a few days. The danger of permanent insensitivity occurs and this is actually a common side effect if the nerve endings are affected by the procedure.
Breast procedures are the most prone to this and the use of a woman's nipple may be affected in connection to this. Numbness also occurs in the face but seldom in the abdomen since there are not a lot of nerve endings here compared to the face and breast. There is no guaranteed way of reverting permanent loss of sensitivity and numbness.
Fluids
Abdominal surgery often results to the accumulation of bodily fluids which may need to be drained from the body. Without the use of a drain, the patient runs the danger of being poisoned to death by the fluids which have no way out of the body.
Since this problem often occurs during abdominal procedures, it is common for surgeons to apply a drain right after the surgery to accommodate the excess fluids. The drain will be removed when the surgeon examines his handiwork during post operative visits.
