Piano Keyboards: Play Them The Way Evgeny Kissin Does

Evgeny Kissin is a piano prodigy who has risen to musical stardom. Kissin's talents have been described as poetic, deep, extraordinary and dazzling. He continues to develop as a performer and is a role model for up and coming modern pianists.

Evgeny Kissin began to play the piano at the age of two years old. He was born in October 1971 in Moscow. At an age where many children are still mastering talking in complete sentences, Kissin was playing the piano by ear as well as improvising. He began attending the Moscow Gnessin School of Music studying under his teacher, Anna Pavlovna Kantor, at the age of six years old. This was a special school for gifted children and Anna Pavlovna Kantor was his sole teacher during his stint there.

By age the age of ten he had already made his initial concert debut. He played Mozart's Piano Concerto K. 466. At the age of eleven he gave a solo recital in Moscow. He began to be recognized globally by the time he was twelve years old when he performed in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. During this performance, he played Chopin's piano Concertos 1 and 2 along with the Moscow State Philharmonic. This concert as well as several others were recorded and released as LPs by the recording label of Melodia.

His popularity soon led to concerts outside his native country of Russia. He traveled to Japan as well as across both Western and Eastern Europe. He played with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic and at the Salzburg Easter Festival. The Salzburg Festival, founded in the late 1960's, is said to be an exclusive event with brilliant talents participating each year. During the 1990's, Evgeny Kissin performed in North America, as well, with the New York Philharmonic and at Carnegie Hall. He wowed the United States with his amazing piano talent while playing Chopin.

Kissin has received awards and accolades for his performances around the world. He has won acclaim for his performances in Japan by winning the Crystal Prize of the Osaka Symphony Hall, Musician of the Year in Italy, Grammy awards in America, Triumph Award from Russia among many others.

His recordings have received multiple prizes, as well. He has recorded LPs, CDs and DVDs. A documentary film was made about his life by Christopher Lupen in 2000. It is called Evgeny Kissin: The Gift of Music and is available on both video and DVD format.
