Phentermine is an appetite suppressant that is used as a short-term supplement to diet and exercise in the treatment of obesity. Phentermine is a sympathomimetic amine similar to amphetamine. Also known as anorectic/anorexigenic drug. Phentermine is one of the most widely used prescribed diet pill for the treatment of obesity.

phentermine is one of two drugs in the Fen-phen anti – obesity medication, the other being fenfluramine or dexfenfluramine.

Phentermine was first approved by the FDA in 1959 as an appetite suppressant for treatment of obesity. Phentermine is currently sold under the brand names Ionamin (Medeva Pharmaceuticals) and Adipex – P (Gate Pharmaceuticals) and is also available as a generic medication, known as phentermine.

Fenfluramine was withdrawn from the US market in 1997 after reports of valve related heart disease and pulmonary hypertension.

Phentermine diet pills are still available in most countries, including the US. However, because it is similar to the amphetamines, it might become habit forming, thus, causing addiction. It is classified as a controlled substance in many countries.

Phentermine, like many other drugs, works as a neurotransmitter in the brain. It stimulates neuron bundles to release a particular group of neurotransmitters known as catecholamines. These include dopamine, epinephrine (also known as adrenalin), and nor epinephrine (nor adrenaline).

The neurotransmitters signal a flight response in the body which, in turn, puts a halt to the hunger signal. As a result, it causes a loss of appetite because the brain does not receive the hunger message.

Phentermine has many side effects and should generally be avoided in patients with:
- Allergy/hypersensitivity to other sympathomimetic amines
- Atherosclerosis
- Cardiovascular disease
- Glaucoma
- High blood pressure
- Hyper Thyroidism
- History of drug abuse
Additionally, this drug should not be used at the same time or within 14 days following the use of monoamine oxidase inhibitors.

phentermine and its brand names are widely available on internet pharmacies. One can buy phentermine from any of these sites and one might even get cheap phentermine as compared to the drug store. Most of the phentermine marketed online are produced of cheap, relatively familiar ingredients. One must be extremely careful while buying these prescription drugs online.
