Anaesthesia

Anaesthesia also spelled as Anesthesia is a medicine area of expertise associated to providing patients with anesthetic drugs in suitable dosage in special scenarios such as surgeries. Anaesthesia deals with taking the patients to a state of amnesia for the moment during which painful procedures such as surgery can be done without the patients experiencing pain.

The dosage of anaesthesia depends on several factors such as the patient’s age; type of surgery to be performed, patient’s body state etc. Doctors who specialize in Anesthesia are known as Anaesthetists. Anaesthesia is derived from Greek meaning “loss of sensation” and it is a reversible condition meaning after a while the patient will come out of the “loss of sensation” state.

Anaesthesia is done when the patient suffers in pain and wants to be relieved from it temporarily for undergoing a surgery. The decision whether to give anaesthesia or not is taken by the physician. Anaesthetists studies Anaesthesiology for all this kind of job.

Perioperative medicine includes the care of the patient preparing for, having and recuperating from surgery. In the practice of perioperative medicine the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and medical consultant work in concert. The medical knowledge separate to this field includes that of operative risk and complications, of patient specific risks, of methods to reduce risk, and of the management of medical illness during this time period.Anaesthesia type medicines are like Perioperative medicine

Pain management

Pain is an unpleasant sensation in humans which is caused by actual or perceived injury to body tissues and produces physical and emotional reactions. Presumably, pain sensation has evolved to protect our bodies from harm by causing us to perform certain actions and avoid others.

Pain management can be simple or complex, depending on the reason of the pain. An example of pain that is typically less complex would be nerve root irritation from a herniated disc with pain radiating down the leg. This condition can frequently be alleviated with an epidural steroid injection and physical therapy. Sometimes, however, the pain does not go away. This can require a wide variety of skills and techniques to treat the pain.

In India, pain is usually accepted philosophically, as one's lot in life, or worse still, as deserved punishment for past karma. In most cases of pain ends with a typical pain-killer of varying intensity depending on the nature or perceived cause of pain and the rest is left to time to heal at its own pace.
