At paws for vets, puppies that are as small as eight weeks are raised in puppy raiser homes and trained to be service dogs. A few dogs that are donated by people are also made to go through training for at least 8 to 10 months. These dogs are then known as Service dogs and they help people to overcome C-PTSD (Chronic post traumatic stress disorder) and/or TBI (traumatic brain injuries). Some organizations even help people to overcome other disabilities like blindness or impaired vision.
Each dog is at these organizations is trained to be able to do the following:
Help the veteran to balance work.
Stand and brace to help the blind or the visually impaired.
Pull a manual wheelchair.
Turn the lights on and off.
Opening and closing the doors.
Pushing buttons so that automatic doors can open in public for example calling the elevator.
Retrieve dropped items or items from the shelves or any other command items.
Getting the phone in case of an emergency.
Pay a cashier.
Carry items in a back-pack.
They train the dogs in such a manner that they do not only become your best friend but also a helping hand in everyway. You do not have to look after them, they will look after you. Paws for veterans is not just a program for the disable but also for those veterans who have served the country. Even though different communities perform differently but the main objective is the same that is to make the lives of a lot of people better. They help those suffering with disabilities to overcome or be able to handle their difficulties. These organizations help people free of cost and do not ask for anything in return.
One can help these organizations by volunteering to help in their programs or by donating dogs. They might have a cold nose but have a warm heart! Dogs love human company very much no doubt, and they are also his best friend in the animal kingdom rightfully. They are endearing, can be kept in homes and even be trusted to play with your kitties. They also smarter than most domestic animals and also have the capability to adapt to human diets, of course with some changes. Some dogs excellent in hunting, some are good at guarding, there is almost no end to the variety of dogs you can see.
