A new year has arrived and with it come more new goals. Yawn. It’s the same old song and dance every year. Some people call these new goals resolutions. I won’t get in to how many people fail at their “new year’s resolutions”, I will get in to how you can be successful at your new goals; especially if that new goal has anything to do with getting in shape and losing weight.
The following suggestions should help you in your endeavors…

1) Set attainable goals – whether you want to lose weight or turn that walk into a jog, make sure you can realistically reach your goal. This does not mean some things are impossible. Setting attainable goals means checking your resources and time commitment to ensure you can reach the end result you desire.

2) Write it Down – write down your plan and your schedule Your plan: call it your goal, objective, end result or whatever you wish. Just right down the general scope of what you plan to achieve and keep it somewhere you can see it often. Your schedule: get a calendar and USE IT! Scheduling your workouts will increase your chances 10-fold of following through with a workout. Plus, after about 3 completed workouts, you’ll be addicted and you won’t want to skip for fear guilt.

3) Share – Go ahead, tell everyone what you plan to achieve. Then your intrinsic motivation will only be that much stronger. After all, you would never want your friends and family to view you as a quitter.

These three simple steps will help you on your way to fulfilled resolutions. Success breeds success. These steps can help with all goals, whether fitness related or not.
