With the internet, there are multiple free websites that you are able to post classified ads for free. Your ad can be seen for longer period of time, and possibly by more people than a regular print newspaper. More people are flocking to use the internet for general information like news and general events, and the newspaper companies are losing readers. One popular website that offers free classifieds is Craigslist, although they do charge for some things like Job listings. Free classified websites are a lot of help to people, including people who are trying to build their businesses. There are sections for people to advertise their services for free, and also real estate agents are able to list their property listings for free.
Although I do believe that using the old fashioned newspaper can and does work, I fail to see much value in advertising in it. There are other ways to advertise, and doing it on the internet can give great results, especially if its free!
