NBA’s New Set of Rules May be a Little Out of Line

The Denver Nuggets were the first team that learned a lesson when it comes to the new rules that apply now on NBA basketball, this when Carmelo Anthony was expelled from a game for frowning. This should serve as an example and every team must be fully aware now that things are not the same now with a new commander to the ship. Now to be in the NBA you must be a solid citizen, an obedient player and keep your shirt tucked in.

But do not get surprised just yet; it goes for fans, too. Fans may not disturb and players may not aggravate. The first one to learn that lesson was an Orlando season-ticket holder named Hooman Hamzehloui, he was banished from attending any more games at any of the NBA’s arenas after calling out racial insults at Magic’s star Dikembe Mutombo.

There are so many new rules in the NBA now that no one can expect them to be followed meticulously and even some of them might be violated out of ignorance, such as not ripping your warm-ups off when you come into a game. This is supposed to speed up a basketball game but everyone knows that what it really means is, do not call attention to yourself. No more long tights under the shorts either or those long compression socks. That goes for the players. As far as I know, fans may still dress anyway they like, except they will have to choose well their words when mocking the players.

I am fully aware that racial slurs have always been a problem for the NBA, and who can forget when Nugget’s Ron Artest got kicked out of the NBA for most of a season when he did a physical violence display that included folding chairs. So everyone agrees that a little more civility should be encouraged but I just hope that in the spirit of a little more order for basketball we will not find ourselves taking the fun out of the sport.
