There are the friendly ones, the helpful ones and then there is mine.
After a long search I bought the perfect house in a small suburb of town. I met the neighbors, the kids and the dogs. As I settled in my new home-sweet-home, I learned that Mr. and Mrs. Leopold next door were planning on moving.
It was difficult to adjust to this fact, but I kept my chin up, while I waved goodbye, as their moving van pulled away. "Someone is really going to be lucky when the Leopold's move next door to them," I thought.
Several months later my new neighbor moved in next door.
Pulling out of my driveway one day, I rolled my window down, to say good morning to Mr. Frank. Instead of a friendly response back, I was greeted with a rant and rave on how I drove over his grass. He didn't want to hear that 12 inches of that grass was on my property. That day he became my unfriendly next door neighbor, and we all have them!
Speaking of grass, my neighbor seems to time cutting his grass right at the time the evening new comes on. It never fails. The grass just grew 1/16th of an inch from the night before and was not even dry from the heavy rain we had. Who cuts their grass every other day?
Oh, it does not stop there. I continue to grin and bear it when he begins to edge the grass, blows the clippings from the sidewalk, and trims the bushes with his electric trimmer. If there is a spot that was missed on the lawn, he starts his mower up again, and nips that in the bud!
Finally, there was silence next door. I opened all my doors and windows again, when I hear this "thump, thump," over and over again. I look over the fence, and there is Mr. Frank bouncing his basket ball and shooting at the hoop causing a "twang, twang," sound as he misses 90 per cent of the time! "This man has just spent two hours working on his grass and has more energy than God," I thought, closing my windows again!
Tuning out the noise pollution, I decided to catch up on my e-mails on my computer, when I hear a hammering outside. You guessed it. There was Mr. Frank hammering away attempting to fix the garage door that became stuck. Bang, bang, bang for another hour. Finally, it was to dark for him to work and he finally stopped. There is a God!
In the silence of the night, I began to miss Mr. and Mrs. Leopold. I remembered how we enjoyed the quiet times in our backyards. We loved to talk and eat our hamburgers off the grill, while Snuffy, their St. Bernard, slept contently at our feet.
I sent them an email and asked if there was any vacancy next door to them.
