You've probably read about the many ways you can be a "green mom." But what many of us have found is that that "being green" often takes a lot of "greenbacks."

However, going green doesn't have to cost a lot of money if you go about it smartly. Here are some unique ways to be a green momma without breaking the bank.

RE-USE PRODUCTS WHEN POSSIBLE: While we live in a convenience "throw-away" society, it's important to remember that sometimes convenience can come at a cost. Think about how you can re-use some of these every day baby products:

*Jars of baby food - These make great snack or pre-measured powdered formula containers for babies/toddlers (and think of all the money you'll save in plastic baggies). They also make great candle votives (what a great way to decorate the table for a holiday or party).

*Diapers and wipes - Using reusable diapers is a great way to save money and the environment. Diapers like Fuzzi Bunz make cloth diapering easy and affordable. Plus, you can donate your used Fuzzi Bunz to a needy organization or another mom when you're done - a fabulous way to avoid littering our landfills.

*Bibs, washcloths and place mats - There are so many disposable bib, washcloth and place mat options available for purchase. While it's tempting take and toss these convenience items, it's just as easy to toss a washable bib, washcloth or place mat into the laundry basket (after all, you're doing laundry regularly anyway).

*Restaurant cups – Save the kiddie cups that come with your child’s meal at restaurant. Use the cups around the house or at your kid's next birthday party. Your toddler may even enjoy playing with the cups... stacking or sorting them. Be creative!

*Re-use the free bags - Re-usable shopping bags can be very expensive for those of us on a budget. Instead, simply bring back your paper grocery bags to the store and use them again and again until they fall apart (a doubled-up paper bag can be used for 10 or more shopping visits). Use plastic grocery bags to line trash bins in bathrooms and offices so you save money by not having to buy plastic bags.

START GOOD HABITS EARLY: Teach your children that there are many ways to conserve energy - and money. Teach these lessons early so they begin to foster good, green habits. Some suggestions include:

*Teach them to turn off the water when brushing their teeth - a lot of water is wasted when a facet is left running.

*Fill the bathtub halfway or encourage no longer than five minute showers.

*Encourage your child to wear clothes (that are not dirty or smelly, of course) more than once. You'll not only conserve water and laundry detergent, but you'll do less laundry each week!

*If possible, instead of driving, walk to nearby stores and parks. You and your toddler will get good exercise and save gas money!

CONSERVE ELECTRICITY: You've been told before to unplug your computers and appliances when not in use. But don't forget to unplug all the baby items too. Bottle warmers, wipe warmers, monitors and toys should be unplugged when not in use so that you conserve electricity and save money. An easy way to make this task more convenient is by plugging these items into an outlet strip and then turning off the strip when the items are not in use.

Also, be appliance smart: Turn off you TV when not watching. Run your dishwasher only when full. Air dry cloth diapers and clothes when possible. Clean out the lint in your dryer (this can reduce energy usage by 30%!). You'll see your electricity bill go down in no time.

Going green doesn't have to be hard or cost a lot of money. It just takes a little extra time, which, at the end of the day, makes this world a little better and your wallet a little thicker.
