Microsoft Exchange Server is the most widely used server-side application, in client server architecture, that is used to create collaborative messaging environment. It creates a user mailbox for every user, which can be accessed using Microsoft Outlook. A copy of mailbox is stored on client system to access it when you are not connected to Exchange Server. This is known as OST (Offline Storage File). When you connect to Exchange Server, the OST file automatically gets converted into PST (Personal Storage Table) after synchronization and it is updated. However, if synchronization can not complete successfully, OST to PST conversion fails. The OST file can not be updated after this.

As an example of OST file connectivity problem, you may face the below symptoms when you attempt to connect Microsoft Outlook 2007 to Exchange Server:

1)You encounter the underwritten error message if your Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 profile is configured automatically:

“The action cannot be completed. The connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Your network adapter does not have a default gateway.”
2)You may come across the below error message if your Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 profile is configured manually:

“Your Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable”

For instance, the error might take place if Outlook has an existing user profile that was connected previously to Microsoft Exchange Server, and then the settings for default gateway is lost. In this case, when you click the Check Name option for verifying the settings in Email Accounts dialog box, the following error occurs:

“Outlook cannot log on. Verify that you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name. The connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. Your network adapter does not have a default gateway.”

When you attempt to connect Office Outlook 2007 to Exchange Server 2003 using RPC over the HTTPS, you encounter the below error:

“Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The attempt to log on to Microsoft Exchange has failed.”

Cause

It occurs when Outlook 2007 configuration settings become corrupt or get deleted.

Resolution

To fix this problem, configure Outlook, Convert OST to PST filemanually using third-party tools, and attach the resulted PST file to Outlook profile.

You can easily Convert OST file using commercial applications, which are capable of converting OST files of all sizes. The OST PST conversion process is quite easy and safe with the help of these tools.

Stellar Phoenix Mailbox Exchange Desktop is the most popular and widely used application that is used to effectively convert unusable OST file. The software works well with Microsoft Outlook 2007, 2003, 2002, and 2000.
