This medically recorded speech between doctor and patients are then converted from this digital format to text format. This process is called medical transcription. So you may have lot questions in your mind. Why tons and tons of money are being spent to transcribe this recorded voice? Why can not the doctors save the recorded file as such and hear to it later? Here comes the problem. Data can not be successfully retrieved or updated in a digital format. Second reason is a simple one. The memory size required for storage is too high. Though there are advanced method of encryption and decryption that could reduce size, saving a digital voice is not preferable. Another fact is data can not be updated. And you may also wonder how this process – medical transcription can save life. Diseases and diagnosis are historic. Yes, they come age after age for different people under different circumstances. If a patient’s disease is being identified to be that of an old patient, doctors can refer to the text format of the already transcribed version. If there is no e-copy of the speech it is very difficult for doctors to pull relevant data in less time. Time is precious in the field of medical transcription. Delaying a second may make a patient die.
There is lots of such situation happened in hospitals and nursing home. Once there was a lady who was diagnosing for pregnancy. There was some critical situation for that lady that she can not give birth to baby without an operation. An unprofessional doctor referring to a wrong transcription voice gave her wrong medicine. This led to the death of that child. This news hit newspapers in late 2000s. If the voice could have made in to text format, they could have categorized the data in proper format that could have led in saving the child. A wrong reference is too costly in the field of medicines and lives.
So a quality transcription can save time, money and more importantly life!
