Have you ever wondered why you should market yourself online first, and not your business opportunity? It makes a lot of sense, actually. Nobody wants to do business with a complete stranger. We all prefer to interact with people that we know and like.

A personal website, article writing, posting in forums, blogging, and social networking are all good ways to market yourself online. Post your picture on your website and tell others about your life, family, pets, hobbies, etc. It is also a good idea to let people know about your search for a home business, and how you made the decision to join your company.

People will be more willing to join you in your business if they feel like they know you. They may see a parallel between your life and theirs. They may be able to relate to you in some way because of your life story. Whether you are a heavy-hitter who has made a lot of money, or a newbie just getting started, prospective business partners want to know about you and what makes you tick.

Once people get to know you online, hopefully they will come to trust you and believe in you. That is why it is so important to have integrity and to be upfront and honest. It is up to those of us in network marketing to make sure that this is a reputable industry.

Sometimes, prospective business partners will see your name and biz op several times before they begin to warm up to you. It may take some time to develop an online relationship, but once you do, people who get to know you will be receptive to you and your business.

In fact, I have never met my sponsor or anyone else in my company face-to-face. I hope to someday attend a company event so that I can meet them, but in the meantime, I feel as if I know them. Their personal websites, articles, blogs, etc., have provided me with their personal stories and their pictures. Due to audios on some of their websites, I even know the sound of their voices.

This is very important in this day and time since we are able to communicate with people all over the world via the internet. We can build strong, solid relationships with people that we may never actually meet. We can even do business with them. Just a few short years ago, people only did business with those in their geographic area. The internet has made it possible for us to make friends and have business partners around the world.

Initially, people are more interested in you than they are your business. They want to know how successful you are, how much time you put into your business, which marketing methods you use, etc. Once they get to know a little about you, they may want to communicate with you for a period of time before making the decision to join your business. Others, however, will feel as if they know you just by looking over your website. If you provide enough information about yourself and your company, they may feel as if they know everything they need to know in order to make an informed decision.

There are a couple of ladies in my organization that have marketed themselves online so well that I would probably follow them to any other company should something happen to our current company. I have never actually met either of them, but they are both not only very knowledgeable about network marketing, but they seem so kind and approachable.

I have come to know them, and I like and trust them. I know about their lives and their families. I know how and why they became involved in network marketing. I know how successful they are. They are sort of like Pied Pipers. I would follow them because they have marketed themselves so well.

Market yourself online, build relationships, and your business will grow. Business opportunity seekers will come to recognize your name. Some of them will join your business because they feel like they know you, they like you, and they trust you. Your actual business may be secondary in their decision to join you. This is a good thing. It makes you a leader that others want to follow and emulate.
