For many people "going on holiday" is an increasing central feature of contemporary western society. The tourism industry has expanded rapidly since 2004. With the coming in of new leadership in Kenya and the opening up of the economy more and more tour operator are setting up shop. The Maasai mara has been one of the biggest tour attractions in kenya and was elevated to the seventh wonder of the world due to the wildebeest migration. These animals migrate to the serengeti during the dry season.

However recently the Maasai mara game reserve expereinced heavy rain and a number of tourists were stuck for a few hours due the underdeveloped road infrastructure in this area.

Operators such as Woni Safaris were able to handle this due to availabilty of four wheel drive vehicles. But should this be the scenario.

After paying all manner of levys and taxes infrastructure should be improved so that tour operatours do not have to go further into their pockets to ensure safaris to various places in kenya are within reach.
