M-Commerce is a new modus operandi of commerce that takes place on through the medium of wireless applications, sets, mobile phones and the likes. Some services provided by Mobile-Commerce are news services, sports results, financial records, stock data and traffic data and information etc. Other than the above list, the M-commerce can be beneficial for mobile banking, auctions, mobile purchase, mobile marketing and mobile loyalty cards etc.
The term m-commerce is sometimes befuddled with e-commerce. But, there is a difference between e commerce and m commerce. Where e commerce is restricted to PC users with an Internet Connection, m-commerce is open to almost the entire mobile population.
In India, this technology is growing at elevated velocity. Different financial organizations are making efforts to promote m-commerce. The Reserve Bank of India is taking first step to encourage m-commerce and issues guidelines against creation of mobile wallet. The mobile wallet can be used for the payments of bills, basic purchase etc.
The leaders of telecom in India, Reliance and Airtel have taken the lead in offering m-commerce services. M-Commerce in India is on a huge growth path. Other organizations that are involved with m-commerce are Californian mobile payment service provider Obopay Inc. and Bangalore’s mChek India Payment Systems Pvt. Ltd. These organizations are among fast-expanding service providers which have intended contributions towards the technology expansion. Obopay Inc. offers mobile linked services in California and now it is planning to provide its services in India too.
India is the second largest mobile handset market in the world. So, it can be reaped as a potential market for m-commerce. A country where 100 million plus mobile users are there is a suitable place for marketing techniques like m-commerce. This is not the end, according to market survey, every month the number of mobile users is increasing up to 3 millions.
There are some severe challenges involved with the expansion of m-commerce that can slow down its expansion speed. They are:
* Security with respect to payment through mobiles.
* Knowledge about the technology to every mobile user.
* Bad mobile connections some times
This budding technology can makes its way only when it is possible to remove above said challenges.
