It is often the main entrance into the family abode. The way it looks reflects on the entire exterior of the house. It is large, heavy and needs to operate smoothly. What parts and components make up this gentle giant?
- Springs, which are coiled pieces of metal which allow bounce and flexible movement.
- Hinges, which are the joints between the moving parts.
- Rollers, which allow the entry to roll up and down into the open and closed positions.
- Tracks, which are the metal railways that the rollers move along in order to propel the garage door upward and downward.
- Brackets, which are metal supports attached to the wall and ceiling in order to hold up its weight.
- Exterior Surface is the portion of the door seen by the outside world and can be made of steel, wood, aluminum, or vinyl. It is often painted in a color that is complementary to the house's color scheme.
- Interior Surface is the portion of the door that can only be seen from within the parking lot. It is the segment that is often insulated to provide the household with energy efficiency.
- Remote control, which is a hand held device that causes the opening and closing of the entry point by communicating via airwave frequency with the mechanism within the parking lot that is designed to do this. It is set to a unique code in order to provide safety and security.
- Chain Loop Drive, Screw Drive, and Belt Drive are three different types of mechanisms, which hoist the entry point up and down. The Chain Loop Drive is the loudest and least expensive system and involves a chain attached to a trolley that provides the hoisting movement.
The Screw Drive system is the slowest but also the strongest of the three types. It may be a good option if you have a very heavy one panel garage entry. The Reinforced Rubber Belt system is the most expensive and quietest of the three drive systems, therefore the most luxurious choice.
All of the above are integral components of the garage entry. Becoming familiar through inspection and regular maintenance will extend its reliability and lifespan. You'll be glad you did.
