You know the language, the grammar & even the pronunciations very well, but you find it difficult to speak flawless English without hesitation. The reason for this is the lack of fluency. It goes without saying that if you speak fluent English, then you have an extra feather to your cap, as fluency in English is a mark of a learned person.

Thus if you want to become fluent in English, then you should focus on four basic skills of learning English , which are reading, listening, speaking & writing.

Reading:-

Listening to English speakers definitely helps, but reading English is equally important. Most people ignore this because they associate reading with big, fat, literary books. But in order to be fluent in English, your reading process must be very active. Read good quality books by famous authors and good English newspapers as much as you can. This is one of the best ways to broaden your vocabulary. Also, a proper & active reading will develop the desired confidence in you.

Listening:-

The best example of learning language through listening are children learning their mother tongue simply by listening & observing their parents, when they are babies. In learning English, listening is very important as that will help in improving spoken English part considerably.

In learning English through listening, you should always be alert when you listen to someone speaking English, be it at work, a function or on television. Listen to the most common phrases & words, & repeat them in front of a colleague or a family member. Nowadays, there are English learning packs available in the market that contain a notable feature of English dialogues.

So keep on hearing various types of English, repeatedly and continuously if you want to communicate properly, meaningfully and naturally.

Speaking:-

When one thinks of speaking English fluently, giving long speeches & making corporate presentations come to our mind. But speaking fluent English is more than that. It is about expressing your views on the most mundane things. Communicate in English as much as possible without fear of not saying things right. The more you do this, the better you will surely become. Talk confidently & convincingly. This is how can you improve your spoken English. Once you will do this, your fluency will improve on its own.

Writing:-

Learning English writing and improving English writing skills is the most challenging part of fluent English. The best way to learn English writing is by throwing yourself into the language and practicing it. You should always remember one thing while writing: when you want to write in English, you have to think in English. In English writing, proper usage of grammar and correct sentence construction is very important.

So just try to get your words and ideas out on paper & make your writing ambitions more realistic by working towards them everyday. By setting this goal for yourself – and then achieving it – you will gain more confidence and enthusiasm and your English writing skills will indeed improve.

Finally, all you need is a will to learn and an initiative to begin. That done, it is simply a matter of time and effort!

Believe in yourself and never shy away from mistakes. Take them seriously and vow not to repeat the mistake ever again. In addition, do not forget to listen, read, talk & write your way to fluency.
