Most doctors recommend that you arrange to stay home for at least four days to a week after undergoing the corrective cosmetic procedure.

After the initial healing period, you will need to wear a headband-like dressing for 24 hours for a week, and then only at night for the following four weeks. Healing can take place at different speeds for different patients, so be prepared to wear the dressing for up to or more than seven weeks depending on the advice of your doctor or surgeon.

Unlike many cosmetic treatments that are regarded by health insurers as unnecessary or extraneous, otoplasty may be covered under your policy. This is more common if the procedure is to be performed on a child, so make sure to consult with your insurance representative when considering your financial options.

Most surgeons also offer financing plans if you cannot afford to pay out of pocket and your insurance refuses to cover the operation. Keep in mind that the cost of the procedure will likely include the cost of bandages also.
