Watching what you eat and exercising regularly are definitely vital to maintaining your ideal weight. But even more important is your mindset. The way you view food and working out can have a direct impact on how much you lose and for how long you can keep it off.

Most people decide to lose weight to fit into a svelte number for the social season, or look good in a bathing suit in the summer. There are very few who actually want to lose weight for the right reason – it’s healthy.

When you decide to lose weight for a reason other than that it’s good for you, your motivation is shot once you’ve achieved your goal. So even though you will look good in that two-piece, you will tend to pack on the pounds once summer comes to an end. So, make up your mind that you want to lose weight because it leads to a healthier, stronger you who also looks and feels better.

To prevent the weight from coming back, you have to find a diet and an exercise plan that you can live with. No one can eat salads and lift weights for life. Talking to a doctor or fitness professional is the best way of devising a plan you can stick to, something you can have fun with. The other way is researching and experimenting until you find something that is fun and comfortable for you. Remember to keep it simple – with your daily exercise and your food choices; something that can easily be incorporated into your daily schedule. Educate yourself; the more you know about food and nutrition, the more likely you are to make healthier food choices for life.
