Unfortunately, the mobility, technology and information that make laptops so useful to employees and organizations also make them a valuable target for thieves. It is estimated that 12,000 laptops are stolen every week in the US. Most often they are being thieved from Schools, homes and businesses. There are a number of ways of protecting your information once your laptop is stolen; including encryption, hard to guess passwords, and of course backing up all your documents. There is also new software that will act like a “LoJack” for your laptop, so it can be tracked once stolen.

While all these security measures are great, the best defense to losing your information is to keep your laptop from being stolen in the first place. An inexpensive laptop lock, such as the ones through Tryten Technologies, can do wonders for securing your laptop and deterring thieves. After all, if you were a thief scoping out two laptops—one with a lock and one without—which which would you go for?
