While labels are pretty small types of prints, you should not underestimate the different types of images that you should put into them. The kinds of professional labels a typical label printer produces will have at least five types of graphics. Let me explain to you these five types of images so that you will know what to do with them in your own custom labels. Review the items below to understand exactly how they work.

1. The feature image.

A label of course will typically have a feature image. This is the main symbol or graphic that marks the label for attention. For product labels this might be the brand symbol, for indicator labels this can be a warning sign or an attention sign of sorts. You would not have a really powerful label without this.

So this is one of the first requirements for your label. It has to be fairly large, rendered in high quality and of course enhanced with the best and most vibrant of colors. You have to go all out with this image as it is the main point of your label.

2. The main label logo.

Next to the main feature image is the main label logo. This is the second most important part of the label because it is the stamp of authorship. People typically would want to know who created the product or who created the label that they are reading. This is to confirm if the content they read in the label is actually authentic and trustworthy.

That is why the logo is important. It sets how people will trust and react to the label itself. So you should really be concerned as well on how this appears. Make sure that the logo is clear of course, and that all the crucial information is present.

3. The emphasis lines and borders.

Lines and borders are also graphics that you put into a label design. They of course organize the content and frame it for a more organized look. Beyond that though, you can use those lines to direct people’s focus.

By adding some lines from the label title to some contact information for example, you can subtly encourage people to contact you. These emphasis lines and borders can be really useful especially for labels that need to do a little marketing. So pay attention where you put those lines and use them accordingly.

4. The background image.

Your background for your labels is also an image element so to speak. Besides using a plain color, like what people used to do in the past, nowadays people add a lot of things to their background image. From using gradient colors, special textures and actually logo watermarks, most labels use these more creative style backgrounds to make the prints more interesting and memorable. Make sure that you also try this out in your labels.

5. Accent graphics.

Finally we have the accent graphics. These are just your simple graphics that add more texture and more detail to the label. This can be just special effects like shadows, borders and glows, or it can be soft detail effects such as grain filters or other texture filters for certain design elements. This is basically the polishing image element for your labels that make them look complete and interesting.

Now you know the different label images that you should create and of course how to use them effectively in your labels. Just review the image types listed above and make sure that you have all these elements for a more coherent and distinctive full color custom label.
