Here is some information about some main power transmission equipments. One of the main equipments of the power transmission is the coupling. Basically, the coupling is a device which is used in order to connect together the two shafts at the ends generally for transmitting the power. The two types of the general couplings include flexible couplings and the rigid couplings.
Rigid couplings are designed in such a manner for drawing together the two shafts tightly. This is basically done so that the relative motion cannot occur in between them. This type of the design is mostly suitable for various types of the equipments. It is very important to note here that rigid couplings should only be applied when alignment of two shafts could be maintained accurately. This alignment should be maintained not only at time of the installation but during the operation of machines also.
On the other hand the flexible couplings are designed for transmitting the torque smoothly and permitting angular misalignment, radial and axial. There are various kinds of the flexible couplings which are available commercially. One of the flexible couplings which are available is the chain coupling. The torque is basically transmitted through the doubt roller chains in this.
Apart from this, the clearances which is between these sprocket teeth and the chains on two of the coupling halves is accommodating the misalignment. Another important type of the flexible coupling is the gear coupling. In the gear coupling, torque is generally transmitted in between the crowned hob teeth from coupling half till the sleeve. The crowned shaped which lies on the gear teeth basically permit the misalignment.
One of the other power transmission equipments include is the universal joint. This is among the most important equipments. In general, this equipment of the power transmission operates at a very low speed. However, universal joint can be used at a high speed also. This equipment when used as a single universal joint is basically applied at a very low power and slow speed. In order to have this, output shaft is having a non uniformed angular velocity at the time when driven by the shaft which is rotating at the uniformed angular velocity.
Apart from these power transmission equipments, speed reducer is also playing a very vital part in this type of the industry. It is basically the component of various biological, hydraulic, electrical and mechanical motors. This speed reducer is seen almost in every transmission system of various types of the machineries. It is used in transportation vehicles like motorcycles, automobiles, and ships. Apart from this, it can be applied in the equipments used for the purpose of heavy construction.
