A tummy tuck, also called an abdominoplasty, is performed by a board certified plastic surgeon in order to streamline a midsection that has been stretched out due to childbearing. A stretching out of this area occurs not only in the external abdominal area, but in the inner girdle of connective tissue, as well.
The skin, muscles and fascia hold the internal muscles in sleek placement. When it has been stretched out through pregnancy or weight gain, bulging occurs from the internal and external protrusions. In order to return a mother's figure to its previous slimness, a tummy tuck is often necessary. Liposuction may also be required if there is excess fatty deposits, as well.
An abdominoplasty takes approximately three hours to perform and is done in a hospital under general anesthesia. One or two nights stay in the hospital is usually required. During the surgery, the physician will remove excess skin and fat between the belly button and pubic line. The inner girdle and fascia will be tightened up during the procedure, as well.
The skin will be stitched closed and the belly button will need to be repositioned into the appropriate central location. Drains will be placed in order to remove excess fluids during healing. A compression garment will need to be worn in order to support the area for approximately six weeks.
A good candidate for this surgery should be close to their ideal weight because losing weight after surgery could cause additional sags to occur. The candidate should give up smoking and not be around second hand smoke, either. It is proven that exposure to cigarette smoke decreases a person's ability to heal quickly and successfully.
Another great thing about scheduling an autumn tummy tuck is that the body will be healed and svelte right in time for the holidays. Swelling should be gone within six weeks and complete healing should occur within three months. Picture a lean mommy in elegant and festive holiday frocks. The holidays and upcoming New Year can be even more enjoyable by giving oneself the early gift of a sexy, taut figure.
