Kidney Failure Treatment in India-Go for It. |
||||
Even with airfare, the cost of going to India for surgery can be markedly cheaper, and the quality of services is often better than that found in Europe, the United States or UK. Many countries have developed links for speedy treatments in India for their nationals on account of the fact that in these countries one has to wait for extended periods of time to undergo operations. In India, medical treatment is not only fast but also costs a fraction of what it costs in USA or Europe. Even tele-consultancy is available for expert opinion and transmission facilities. Some of the states have already established themselves as destinations for health care and medical tourism. The growing need is for high level specilised treatments like transplantation of vital organs, cancer treatment, neuro-surgery, cardiac surgery and many more.
What is Kidney Failure?
Normally, kidneys filter waste products from blood, control the balance of salt and water in the body, help adjust blood pressure, and regulate other important functions in the body. Kidney failure (also referred to as Chronic Renal Failure or End-Stage Renal Disease) is a serious, long-term condition where the kidneys are unable to perform these important functions. With this condition, patient will need to make important choices about your treatment.
Why do Kidneys Fail?
Most kidney diseases attack the nephrons, causing them to lose their filtering capacity. Damage to the nephrons may happen quickly, often as the result of injury or poisoning. But most kidney diseases destroy the nephrons slowly and silently. Only after years or even decades will the damage become apparent. Most kidney diseases attack both kidneys simultaneously.
The two most common causes of kidney disease are diabetes and high blood pressure. If a person’s family has a history of any kind of kidney problems, he may be at risk for kidney disease.
Signs and symptoms of Kidney failure:
Signs and symptoms of acute kidney failure may include:
- Decreased urine output, although occasionally urine output remains normal
- Fluid retention, causing swelling in your legs, ankles or feet
- Drowsiness
- Shortness of breath
- Fatigue
- Confusion
- Seizures or coma in severe cases
- Chest pain related to pericarditis, an inflammation of the sac-like membrane that envelops your heart.
Some people don't notice any early signs or symptoms, or are more bothered by the underlying problem causing the sudden kidney failure.
What happens when Kidneys Fails?
Healthy kidneys clean the blood by filtering out extra water and wastes. They also make hormones that keep bones strong and blood healthy. When both of the kidneys fail, then the body holds fluid. Patient’s blood pressure rises. Harmful wastes build up in his body. Patient’s body doesn't make enough red blood cells. He develops fatigue, nausea, and loss of appetite. When this happens, he needs treatment to replace the work of your failed kidneys.
What are the Treatment Options for Kidney Failure?
Patient and his doctor will discuss the treatment options for kidney failure. A patient with kidney failure can choose among three forms of treatment for this condition: Hemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis, or Kidney Transplantation.
- Hemodialysis: This treatment uses a machine to filter patient’s blood and temporarily remove waste products, extra salt, and extra water from the body.
- Peritoneal Dialysis: This type of dialysis uses the lining of patient’s abdomen to remove waste products, extra water, and chemicals from your body.
- Kidney Transplantation: During this surgical procedure, the transplant surgeon places a healthy kidney into patient’s body. The donated kidney does the work of the two failed kidneys. There is no need for dialysis with this surgical treatment. Although most patients receive kidney transplants after starting dialysis, patients may also choose transplantation before starting dialysis. For many patients, kidney transplantation has become the preferred treatment for kidney failure.
