The Statue of Liberty
The iconic Statue of Liberty aptly represents New York. It stands at Liberty Island in New York Harbor and seems to welcome everyone travelling to New York by sea. The statue was modelled on the Colossus of Rhodes and shows a woman holding a torch. The torch flame is plated in gold leaf, while pure copper was used for sheeting the statue. This national monument is adorned with a crown on its head. The crown has observation windows, which can be reached by climbing the stairs inside the statue.
Central Park
This historical landmark is an immense urban park, which is visited by some twenty five million travellers every year. The park was meticulously landscaped to give it a natural feel and look. Some of the major draws of this park are the Central Park Zoo, Central Park Conservatory Garden, tranquil ponds and lakes, ice skating rinks and spacious walking paths, a wildlife sanctuary, a big naturally forested area, and a reservoir encircled by a running track. The Central Park is perhaps the best place to embark on your USA flights of fancy.
The Brooklyn Bridge
The East River flows some 5,989 feet under the Brooklyn Bridge. The bridge was inaugurated in 1883 as the connecting link between Manhattan and Brooklyn and remains one of the oldest suspension bridges throughout New York. During nights, the majestic hangings and towers are brilliantly bathed in dazzling lights. A hot favourite activity is to take a breezy walk on ‘The pedestrian walkway’ across this bridge.
Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts
Sprawling over some 16.3 acres, the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts houses 12 resident arts organisations. It hosts some of the most prestigious events in the US like American Songbook, Great Performers, Midsummer Night Swing, Lincoln Center Festival, Emmy Award Winning Live, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, and Mostly Mozart Festival. The most reputed arts organisations in this complex are New York Philharmonic, The New York City Opera, New York City Ballet, and Metropolitan Opera. It is just not worth it to miss the Lincoln Center during your holidays in New York.
