However, not only do they end up saving their marriage after the passing of this phase, they actually form a closer bond in their marriage after going through this phase.

Couples experience difficulties in their marriage due to a variety of problems. Some couples experience problems in their marriage due to an extramarital affair while there are others who are just facing a communication breakdown. No matter what your problem, if you have the will to work out your problem, we can show you the way!

Before you proceed with the problem-solution approach, make sure that you as well as your partner are willing to work upon the problems creating marital conflict. The entire purpose of making a marriage work can be defeated if either of the partners is unwilling to work on a marriage.

There are times when one of the spouses or both of them are even unwilling to accept that their marriage is in trouble. They consider any change in their marriage as a natural change that would occur in any relationship. Yes, relationships do change over time, but they do not have to change for the worse.

Therefore, it is important for you to be willing to recognize the potential problems in your marriage with an open mind. This is where marriage counsellors come into picture. Often times, we tend to see only our side of the story while completely disregarding what the other person is going through. Seeking the help of a marriage counsellor will help you in your marriage because a counsellor acts as an objective third party who can listen to both sides of the problem and assist you in finding the solution to your problem.

A counsellor looks at the relationship from a completely unbiased perspective and might be able to suggest a solution that might not have occurred to you at all. On the contrary, the solution might be something that may have occurred to you and your spouse but you did not know how to implement it. Here, too, the counsellor will be able to suggest you concrete steps to achieve the solution.

However, there are some couples who just do not feel comfortable going to a counsellor. What alternatives do such couples have? Your best bet would be to open the lines of communication. It might sound like a bad idea but it helps when couple fight! Keeping your issues inside your heart is not going to solve the problem. Rather, it will only make it worse because your issues will keep piling up inside your heart and you will bear more resentment and bitterness.

The only thing to keep in mind is that you and your spouse should engage in productive fighting. Productive fighting ensures that you and your partner fight for reaching a solution to the problem rather than engaging in bickering or complaining that leads you nowhere. Try to remember the earlier days of your marriage and the long conversations with your partner. It is this communication about your feelings that keep the marriage on the right track.

When you do not communicate effectively with your partner, it leads to misunderstandings, anger, frustration and baseless assumptions. Therefore, it is important to engage in a heart-to-heart conversation with your spouse on a frequent basis. One way to do this would be to start scheduling date nights.

In our busy lives, we tend to schedule time for everything ranging from meetings and appointments, to running errands, meeting family, and taking care of the children. Amidst all this, couples forget to schedule a time for themselves. Therefore, it is not a bad idea to mark a day of the week as your date night when you and your spouse can go out, spend time with each other, and do something that you both enjoy doing together.

You and your partner should have more sex. Having sex often will have an immensely positive effect on you as a couple. However, make sure that you spend more time on exploring each other than the act itself. Physical intimacy also leads to more mental closeness. Therefore, make sure that you show physical affection by hugging or caressing your partner.

Recent studies have indicated that non-vacationers are more likely to be more stressed and unhappy in their marriages than couples who go on regular vacations. Our lives have become so stressful that vacations act as an effective stress buster. Vacations give you the opportunity to spend more time with your spouse and do different things that you would not be able to in your everyday life. Therefore, vacations can be an energizing experience and will liven the state of affairs of a dull marriage.
