Liposuction Candidacy
One of the best ways to ensure the safety of your liposuction procedure is to meet the basic qualifications for a good liposuction candidate. Liposuction Risks and Complications
Although the complications associated with liposuction are rare, patients should be aware of them before making a commitment to the procedure. Some of these risks and complications include:
• Excessive liposuction – Removing too much fat, or treating too many body areas during a single session can result in excessive bleeding and other issues. The less fat is removed during liposuction, the safer the procedure is.
• Hematoma – A hematoma is an abnormal collection of blood outside of your blood vessels, usually clotted, that looks similar to a dark bruise through the skin. This can occur if the body areas treated during liposuction endure too much trauma. Modern techniques have greatly reduced the odds of a hematoma occurring.
• Temporary bruising – Any initial bruising that results from liposuction should fade over time.
• Scarring – A good plastic surgeon will do everything in his or her power to avoid noticeable scarring from liposuction. Some scarring is inevitable after any surgical procedure, but it can be strategically hidden and reduced to the point where it is virtually invisible.
