A clean installation of Windows XP will take an hour; in contrast installation of Windows Vista is faster, even though it takes large space to install all the features. The record of Ubuntu operating system is somewhat mixed. Installation of Leopard is easy as compared to any other operating system. Apple provides an amazing feature Archive and install which makes the installation of the operating system a great relieve.

Third Party Software: Third party software is the compatible software that can be installed with the OS. The market for the Linux includes mainly third party software. According to the internet poll 78% people are using XP as the main operating system on their computers. Other than XP, another Windows version Vista is competing well in the market. But still the situation is not in the favor of Vista, because there are several programs in the souk that work well with XP, but require a Vista specific upgrade for Vista applications. Actually the Microsoft products are taking advantage of its Office suiteV, which is still world famous. Adobe frequently offers Mac and Windows software on the same disc to satisfy its user’s requirements.

Networking:No operating system can be 100% faultless in networking. The networking capability of Windows XP is most widely used. Windows Vista is better prominent for its wireless networking. The networking performance of Mac OS 10.5.1 is good and it is illustrious for seamless networking connection. On the other hand, being open source software, Ubuntu is in little trouble. The reason behind the story is that lack of open source drivers for networking hardware.

Security: Security is a big issue for any operating system. If the data stored in an operating system is not secured enough, then no consumer will use that operating system. From the security point of view, Mac OS and Ubuntu will get 4 stars out of 5, while other two operating systems will get 3. Microsoft includes anti-virus software tool with its installation. The security tool that gets installed with the installation of operating system is Windows Defender. Even Mac and Ubuntu have their own arrangements for anti- malware tool, but one needs to worry about security in case of these two operating systems.

Drivers/Hardware: It includes the list of hardware it supports. Windows market share puts it on the crown as it is compatible with so many hardware components like mobile phones, PDAs, Digital cameras, media players, digital photo frames, mp3 players etc. Apple includes a number of drivers for hardware such as printers and scanners. Ubuntu is one step behind the race of hardware compatibility with operating system.

Interface: The user interface of Windows Vista and Windows XP is almost same. These operating systems offer same type of environment to the users. The GNOME desktop environment of Ubuntu is supposed to be very clean and well organized environment. The Mac OS provides the most friendly interface to the users. At the ending note, we can say that each operating system has its own characteristics and user can select any operating system according to the requirements.
