It is very dangerous to use electrical items during an electrical storm because the lightening strike could send a power surge into the homes electrical system. You should also never shower or do dishes during an electrical storm because a lightening strike can travel through water to an open outlet. You should also stay off the telephones during an electrical storm. During a storm, it is best to do nothing. Shut down computers for the best protection. Even if you have a surge protector, it is best to power down until the storm passes. You do not want to take a chance of damaging the computer or risk harm to yourself.

You never know if your outlets are faulty until there is a problem. You may think you are safe and protected, but if something in the electrical panel or behind the walls is just not right, you could indeed receive an electrical shock. You need to use caution during an electrical storm no matter how mild or severe. The best way to stay safe is to turn off all electronics that you absolutely do not need running. The potential for fire or an electrical shock will be greatly reduced.

Televisions are affected by electrical storms as well as other electronic items. This is not such a problem today as it was years ago before standard polarized outlets were used.
