My living room is cluttered enough as it is and I have no space or desire to squash a traditional surround sound system in there. For a start the thought of trailing the extensive wiring under carpets or floorboards needed to place the six speakers with around the room is a complete no-no, and I haven’t a wish for speakers appearing everywhere either.
I require a single sleek unit which will produce the full sound I would like, and it is called a ‘Soundbar’.
A Soundbar is longer than it is wide and normally is about the length of your TV, so should fit neatly beneath your flat screen TV within your AV rack. As with everything technical, there are many upgrades and price ranges of these Soundbars, but the marvel is that you can achieve 5.1 surround sound from them in a single enclosure! Just what I like, all in one trim, single unit.
If you consider a few simple things before choosing the correct Soundbar for you there will be no disappointments. Importantly you must consider how many gadgets you want to plug into it. So make sure you have enough inputs in the back. For example, do you need an HDMI input for an Xbox or BlueRay player. With enough of the right inputs all your equipment can be plugged into the Soundbar, and then just one lead comes from the Soundbar and plugs in to the TV. It is all so simple and efficient. Depending on how much you want to spend on it, you can even get Soundbars with an automated set up program that uses an onboard microphone to tune the sound into your environment. Most helpful!
To get the best surround sound from your Soundbar make sure there are no obstructions in front of it when you place it, like the legs of a TV stand or another of your gadgets to muffle it, or it could be wall mounted if preferred. You just need a mains plug available for your Soundbar and your away. It is a dream to think that you can get such rich surrounding sound from one single unit in your own living room…feet up and where’s the Pop-Corn!
