The cheapest type is the water-based epoxies. Being strong enough, they can be used for residential purpose. These epoxies can be found at most home improvement stores. Nowadays epoxies are available in various colors. Some manufacturers offer computerized color matching also. Most of the brands in the market claim that epoxies are good for exterior purpose only. This statement is true for some of the stronger coatings. Some people live in harsh climate, it would be better if they check out acid-based and acrylic concrete stains before deciding to use paint.

If homeowner is planning to use epoxy concrete floor paint for his garage or basement then the most important thing that you have to keep in mind for a long lasting finish is surface preparation. Most of the brands perform well for residential purpose. Applying them properly on the surface is the difference between success and failure. This is true for any concrete coating or topping. A clear coat of concrete sealer on top will act as a sacrificial coat and keep the paint looking nice. Find an epoxy kit with compatible sealer that has all the materials and instructions to complete your project.
