International Women’s Day is a day when every woman should stop and reflect on her own achievements and congratulate herself and her friends and family for making it this far.

Women are the better half of the world and nobody denies that. March 8th is dedicated to women irrespective of their shape, size or color. International Women’s Day is a day when every woman should stop and reflect on her own achievements and congratulate herself and her friends and family for making it this far. Women’s rights, women’s issues, society, and other themes surrounding women become the highlight of this day.

“The origin of the child is the mother, a woman…she shows a man what loving, caring and sharing is all about…” said Sushmita Sen, India’s first Miss Universe, in the final round of the contest. The International day of woman is the day when she gets all that loving, caring and sharing back with interest.

It is a golden opportunity to appreciate and honor women at home, at your office, at the mechanics, and at the grocery store. A simple wish, a pat on the back, or even a simple email can make all the difference. Thank the special lady in your life with a greeting card. Tell her exactly how much she means to you. If she's anything like me, it could easily fill her eyes with tears of joy and pride.

Women have achieved a lot in every sphere of life but like the old saying goes, "Charity begins at home". Start by appreciating the everyday heroes living right at home with us. Sometimes each day can be a struggle for a working woman, a single mother or a homemaker from below the poverty line. They are brave and emerge victorious and move on to the next day ready for another fight. I think the average woman on the street deserves as much praise and credit for being just the person she is as much as celebrities do.

March is a month to love and acknowledge such idols of courage and dynamism residing among us. On March 8th, International Women’s Day, let your mother, wife, girlfriend, sister, and every other special lady know how invaluable her contribution is to you personally. She is truly indispensable.
