During the summer, the system gets reversed and it cools the building by pulling heat from the building, carrying it through the system into the ground. Open loop systems operate on the same principle as closed loop systems and can be installed where sufficient supply of suitable water is available and open emission is available.

It takes help of the moderate temperatures in the ground to bump up efficiency and reduce the costs of heating and cooling systems. It can provide space heating and hot water and requires little maintenance.
