Industries Affected by Asbestos Exposure |

Asbestos is a naturally mined mineral that has been in use for over 100 years as an insulator and flame retardant. Asbestos was used into the 1980s despite regulations put in place in the 1970s to limit the amount of asbestos used in a wide variety of industries. |

There is a positive correlation between asbestos exposure and the chance of developing mesothelioma, meaning that the longer you are exposed to asbestos, the more likely you are to be diagnosed with mesothelioma. Unfortunately, this risk does not decrease over time or after the exposure to asbestos stops.
Family members of people who worked with asbestos are often also at risk of contracting mesothelioma, since asbestos fibers can be transported home on clothing. Anyone who came in contact with the fibers could develop mesothelioma.

By no means is this a comprehensive list. Those who worked in manufacturing products with asbestos or shipyards are also at high risk of mesothelioma. Military personnel, particularly US Navy, were also exposed to high levels of asbestos.
If you or a family member worked in any of these industries, you may be at risk of mesothelioma. It is important to have a good doctor and mesothelioma lawyer on your side to help you battle this cancer.
