If you answered yes to these questions and/or found yourself to similar situations then you’re not alone. A lot of people have a hard time with accomplishing or even just sticking to the goals that they set. Here are a few reasons as to why people fail in seeing their goals through and a few tips on how to remedy them.

New Year’s resolution as tool for goal setting: Having a new year’s resolution isn’t really a bad thing and starting the year right with a good perspective is always an excellent way to kick off things. While aiming high at the start of the year is good, having such a grandiose starting point makes failure all the more heavy and some just wait for another year to set new goals. The reality is that people don’t really accomplish all their goals immediately and what they don’t realize is that sticking to your goals is more important than making a good start all over again.

Forgetting to measure or quantify goals during goal setting: Earn more money or to lose weight are examples of goals without beginnings or ends. By not having a starting point or an end in mind, it will be harder to accomplish goals that are too abstract in nature. To lose 10 kilos in two months or to save up $50 each week are much more suitable and measureable goals for one to aim for. Keeping track of and measuring your accomplishments will help you calculate how much more effort and/or time you need to accomplish the desired results.

Failing to make a conscious effort: The more you remind yourself of your goals and the more you take them seriously will greatly help you in making your thoughts a possibility. This may sound lame and a given but its actually not. People tend to take a backseat after they have planned for their goals and just let things ride through. This is a common mistake that most make and by not taking their goals seriously, it is easy to lose track and ultimately fail at the target. Motivation, here, is key and there are many ways to constantly remind yourself of what your goals are. Cataloguing and putting your goals and progress into a calendar could help and placing reminders such as photographs and other things could be good motivational tools for you to strive harder towards your goal

Ignoring wagers: Being challenged and putting something on the line almost always increases motivation for all parties concerned. By putting something at stake and having a chance to gain something is a good motivational tool as opposed to only battling yourself. Competition coupled with a good incentive provides a strong impetus for one to work harder to best his opponent and ultimately achieve his desired goal.

All in all, there are many ways for one to set his goal properly and keep in track with it but the bottom-line is that one needs to have good tools for a much greater chance of success. Willpower may be good but using these methods gives you a better possibility to accomplish any personal goal.
