I would like to focuse on the things you can do to get your website ready for the big times! You can make it more user and search engine friendly with the tips in this article.

Keep adding fresh content on a regular basis
Make sure that the content of the site changes on a regular basis so the search engines will see something new each time they come to your website. Search spiders like sites with fresh content. It shows that you have an active site that is properly maintained.

Your content should be unique
If you generate useful and unique content, search engines will place your site much higher than it has to be. Your visitors will also come to your resource more often.

Metatags: Title
Title of your pages should be the first html tag in the Head section on all of the web pages on your site. Also, make sure that the title contains the search keyword that you use to promote your site. It should contain at least 2 words and not more than 7.

Metatags: Keywords
Use no more than 5-6 keywords. If you use more it will dilute the strength of the ones that are important. Use 5-6 words that are the most important words describing your company or service and put them in the meta keywords section in your page template.

Metatags: Description
The Meta description is read by people so don't stuff it with keywords and turn it into keyword cloud. Make it commercial and attractive. It should contain your keywords but also sell your service or product. It should be about 15-20 words long.

Don't overuse Flash movies and java navigation
Try not to use any Flash movies and java-redirects on your main page. Make sure all your pages have links to the other pages in your site. Search engines often can't index them. So if you need to use them, just make sure there are text links to navigate the rest of your site. Small text links at the bottom or top of your page work very well.

Always place alt tags on your images
I suggest using 2-3 keywords in the alt tags of every images on your pages. Do not use alt tags for your template images. Remember to pick them carefully.

Text on your pages
Make sure there is some attractive and useful text on your site. Between 200-600 words per page is good enough. Your text should be unique for best results. Never steal any text from other websites, search engines will easily figure this out and will penalize your site. Have lots of supporting text for the other information you are trying to convey in the site. Also, try to make the first paragraph very dense with lots of keywords, then let them decrease in the next couple of paragraphs. This increases relevancy if the words are nearer to the top of the page.

These tips should help you to get started. There are a lot more of them I will discuss in future articles. Good luck with your efforts!
