To come out of the touch mode option you can choose the widget with the trackball in case you are using the Android application development device. This has to be used only for specific purposes as there are chances of this option breaking the behaviour of the Android apps development UI toolkit. |

Selection and Focus
The interaction mechanism makes it difficult to design the Android application development UI tool kit. The reason being the multiple options like many have the touch screen while others have stylus, keyboard, 12 keys or both the touch screen and the keyboard. Depending upon the hardware availability the users were free to make use of any one of the options and thus the development of the touch modes becomes a little difficult as lot of the issues had to be taken into consideration. One such issue has led to the development of the touch mode.
The application ApiDemos is a very simple list of the text items. The user will have the option of either making use of the trackball and scroll down the list or use the touch screen to find any particular item. When the user makes use of the touch screen mode then selection has to be done carefully. If the user chooses the first item and then scrolls down then there are issues as to whether the selected item should be highlighted or wiped off or if the user decides to select another item and so on, So all the focus and the selection categories were completely removed in the touch mode.
Focus in Touch mode
Focus is not present in the Touch mode as explained in the previous paragraph. But there is another option called focusable that is available in the touch mode option in place of the focus. The focusable option is made available whenever the widgets are created to receive the text input and when there is filtering of data like List view. This mode enables the user to type in any text inside the screen on the text field, similarly when the user touches the widget in the focusable mode that gets focussed immediately. The screen becomes touch mode when the user touches it or eels it's not so. Only widgets will be focussed under the focusable option and not under any other mode.
This mode can be enabled through code or XML. This has to be used only for specific purposes as there are chances of this option breaking the behaviour of the Android apps development UI toolkit.
Cheat Sheet in Touch mode
Never keep the focus and selection in touch mode. Try to be consistent when using the core applications. For particular selection make use of the concerned feature and in writing the games always make use of the focusable mode in the touch mode.
